Application Of Tower Packing

Distillation Column

Packing material can be used instead of trays to improve separation in distillation columns. Packing offers the advantage of a lower pressure drop across the column (when compared to plates or trays), which is beneficial while operating under vacuum. Random column packing is the practice of packing a distillation column with randomly fitting filtration material in order to optimize surface area over which reactants can interact while minimizing the complexity of the construction of such columns. Random column packing is an alternative to structured column packing. Packed columns are used for distillation, gas absorption and liquid-liquid extraction. The gas-liquid contact…

Liquid Distributor Packed Column

In the operation of distillation, absorption and analysis of a packed tower, the liquid distributor is important internals, and poor initial distribution of liquid will lead to a great decline in the efficiency of the packed tower. When the uneven initial distribution of liquid is serious, it needs packing height several times the tower diameter or increasing the number of trays to be corrected. With the continuous research on the performance of packed towers and the accumulation of long-term practical production experience, the structural form of the packed tower has been continuously optimized, and the types of liquid distributors are…

Reflux Still

Packed distillation columns are filled or “packed” with a material that allows rising vapours to contact descending condensate. The more vapour-liquid contact the better the separation. The packing material of construction should be compatible with the material being distilled.
